Growing our Family

Our older kids have been so wonderful with their baby sister. It's been a joy and an answer to prayer that they haven't struggled with jealousy. They adore her and love to show her affection. It's very sweet to see how readily they've welcomed her into our family.

The big kids know that we're also in process with another adoption. We've never requested a gender, but as you can imagine, our son is hoping our next child will be a boy. And a comical, endearing effect of our new daughter's coming has been an increased desire on her big brother's part to get moving on that next adoption!

More than once a day, our sweet son brings up his brother by name (a name we've talked about using). His Sunday School teachers tell me that he asks them to pray for his brother every week. He has counted the chairs at our table and assures me that there's room for his brother. When he outgrows clothes or shoes, he lets me know that they can be for his brother. He has it all figured out about where in the car he will sit (we'll switch seats around so he can be next to him, of course). I've written down so many funny comments he's made. Here are a few:
Me: "Someone is coming to visit us today from the adoption agency to talk about your baby sister, to see if she's doing well with our family."
Big Brother: "Could you ask someone to come talk about my baby brother too?"
Me: "I love you two and your sister and daddy so much!"
Big Brother: (pause) "I hope I have a baby brother."
And probably my favorite...
He told me that in Sunday School his teachers were telling the story about Judas and the 30 pieces of silver. They asked him what he would spend the money on if he had it, and he said he would use it to adopt his baby brother. Words fail me!
I can relate to his desire. Even though baby girl is only 3 months old, if money was no object I'd be eager to move forward more quickly too. My heart has been a little heavy lately with how expensive adoption is, and how costly it is to grow our family. Our desire is to have more children, and it will definitely be a wonderful thing to see how God will provide financially to make that happen, if it is His will.

If you think of it, will you join my son and I in praying that God will provide for us to bring another baby home soon? We trust that God will wisely decide the gender for us.
