The first time we adopted, it went extremely quickly. From the day we mailed off our application until the day we brought our kids home, it was a total of only about 6 1/2 months. This second time around, it's been longer than that already and we're still essentially at the beginning of the process.
Many of you know that we recently moved, which means that even though we completed a home study this past fall/winter, we are having to update it with all our new information. We'll also have to update the government paperwork we filled out. We're waiting to do these things though, because the adoption agency we are committed to using is not accepting new applications for their Congo program. They've had an overwhelming number of families apply, and they're still getting their pilot families through the process. The integrity of the agency makes them worth waiting for, and adopting through their Congo program allows us to welcome two babies into our family. So we're waiting and praying, and hoping to hear an estimate from the agency soon about when they think they'll be accepting new applications so we can decide whether we'll wait for that program or go with another country (which could mean bringing home only one child or bringing home two children with one of them being older). We'll see what God has in store for our family!
