Crisis Pregnancy Centers

My love for Christian crisis pregnancy centers increases as I learn more about them.  The adoption of our newborn daughter was through an agency that's part of a wonderful, gospel-centered pregnancy help medical clinic called Life Choices.  They're doing excellent work, and it's such a blessing to have found them.

One thing I've been struck by is how busy our agency is.  When we were in Memphis for our daughter's birth, there was another adoptive family that was there to welcome a daughter that had been born the day before.   It seems like every time I talk to our contact at the agency she has plans to be at the hospital for more little ones that are due to be born.  Some birth mothers choose a family to adopt their babies, and some birth mothers choose to parent.  Life Choices is a great support and help either way.

I want to be careful to protect our little girl's story and her birth mother's privacy, and I also want to share at least a little bit about what a beautiful thing domestic adoption is to be a part of.  We are so very encouraged by the ways that the birth mother counselors have come alongside our daughter's birth mother and genuinely love her.  They were in contact with her almost daily for much of the second half of her pregnancy and they went above and beyond to help her in a number of ways.  She even requested that they be in the delivery room with her because of the level of trust and friendship she felt for them.  And the counseling for birth mothers continues indefinitely, even after a baby has been placed with an adoptive family.

The women's ministry at our church recently went to a local Christian crisis pregnancy center for a Saturday work day, and it was so encouraging to hear about their ministry too.  One thing they shared that stood out to me was that they see about 150 new women each month.  That's a lot!   This crisis pregnancy center, like Life Choices, has lots of Bible and Biblical parenting classes that expecting mommies can take in order to earn "bucks" that they can spend on baby items that have been donated to the center.  It's a wonderful way to educate women and help meet their practical needs.
